Animals

So, I don't know why I've had this thing with animals the last few days. I've noticed them a lot more or something, but I think some of them might be going crazy!
Monday morning when I took Brecken to school the animals around our neighborhood (and there are a lot!) were acting sooo weird. The horses across the street were neighing and carrying on (I've heard them 1 other time since we moved,) the donkey around the corner was braying like it might be dying (it does that quite often...but usually only at about 1:00 am) and every dog was barking like crazy. I think it was probably because of the smoke from New Harmony. Everything was red and hazy and just plain awful.
Yesterday, I took Bridger outside to look at our cows (ya, we now have 2 out in our back pasture because Brigham was very worried about getting something in there and he made the arrangements with his 2 great uncles to get him some cows.) They were having a great time! They were running and jumping and bucking and having just a ton of fun! We also have two frogs that we got on the 24th of July. The first time I changed their water I was 100% sure I killed one of them. I didn't immediately flush it because I thought Rickie could deal with it later. Brecken was very upset and mad at me, but miraculously the frog was alive the next morning. I've been a little hesitant to change the water again since then, but yesterday I just couldn't stand seeing the two little thing sitting in 3/4" water, so I VERY carefully changed the water and ever since the frogs have kept us very entertained. They'll float to the top of the water then dive back to the bottom and very active. They'll also float at the top of the water with their back legs in the splits. It's been kinda fun watching them. I just hope that they having fun and their not being tortured somehow. I bet they love us tapping on the cage every time they don't move for longer than 30 seconds!

I think I've been noticing more because on Sunday we had a sad thing happen to the one of the horses in the pasture next to us. Rickie and I came home for second hour because Bridger had fallen asleep during sacrament and we thought we'd bring him home and not wake him up. When we pulled in (ya, we drove and we live 100 ft from the church...I had a load full of Super Saturday stuff!) we noticed the horse laying right by the fence by our roses. We didn't think too much of it and then a few minutes later when we decided to go back to church (because Bridger woke up) Rickie noticed that the horses legs were caught in the fence. So, to make a long story shorter, Rickie changed his clothes and I ran to the church to find out the guys name that owned the horse. When I got back Rickie had the horse out of the fence, but it was laying in another part of the field on it back and it just kept rolling and rolling. If it could've stayed right on it's back with its feet in the air it would have. Well, it had colic and it was already too late to do anything for it, so it had to be put down. During the whole thing the other horse in the pasture wouldn't get very far away and it would just stand and watch. Our cows were also very curious and stood and watched. The horse got caught in the fence between our property several times, so we'll have some fence maintenance to do since the horse would kick and basically pulled the fence over in two different places. I felt soooo bad for the horse. You could tell it was in misery. I also felt bad for the owner, who could only stand and watch while he waited for someone to come and take care of it. It was a very gentle, friendly horse and I just hate to see something like that happened. It's such a waste. But I was impressed by the curiosity and concern the other animals were showing. I think animals are a lot more bright than we give them credit for.

Well, that was probably really interesting for everyone, but I'm not in the mood to much so I might as well right our history! Here's our dog, Lucy! I put the other animals on here... so I figured I'd put pics of our other pets too! She loves to chase anything; balls, apples, Frisbees, whatever is close! She's good dog, very protective especially of kids and that ended her up in quarantine at the pound for 10 days this summer. Arg...still makes me mad to think about it.
Here's one of our cats that would rather live at one of our neighbors houses instead of ours. I don't know if this is Carly or Yellow Eyes. They're identical.
