She's Growing!
(this is the email I sent to the girl who referred us to Dr. Later)

Hey! I was just going to tell you we went and saw Dr. Later today. I really, really liked him and I am soooooo glad we went. He doesn't know why she isn't gaining, but said that she is categorized as failure to thrive, but said that there is infinite reasons why she could be. I have to start feeding her every 4 hours, at least and he wants to see minimum gain of 5 oz a week. If that doesn't happen then we'll start in on all the tests and stuff. He was worried about her eye (we have been too, but have been told it wasn't anything to worry about...) and his nurse went across the hall and got us an appointment with and eye surgeon for today too. If we'd let it go any longer, then she would've had vision problems for sure. I think we got is soon enough that if she has to have surgery it won't be until she's about to go to kindergarten, and that will be more for cosmetic reasons. I really liked that Dr. too. Well, that was long, but I just really wanted to tell you thank you. We wouldn't have had a clue who to go to!

So...our first visit to the pediatrician was scary. The Dr. was very blunt and to the point but I had been warned. Hearing the words "failure to thrive," " she isn't healthy" and "alarmingly small" isn't fun. I was extremely glad we went though. Especially because we had been told not to worry about her eye....it wouldn't be a problem. She wore a patch an hour a day for two weeks and we went back a couple of weeks ago. Her eye had improved but she still has to wear her patch for another 6-8 weeks and we will definitely have to have surgery about the time she turns 5 so she isn't called "the droopy eyed girl." (the Dr's words!)
We also visited the pediatrician the same day. It was just opposite of the first visit. She weighed 8.15 1/2. Yay!!! The Dr. was THRILLED and said that the physical changes in her were remarkable. She acts like a different baby. She smiles all the time, she talks and coos and she acts like she actually is almost 4 months old. She are soo glad she's doing better, and having to set the alarm at 2, 3 or 4 in the morning to wake her up to eat was all worth it, just not fun at the time.
